Be Safe When Riding in the Rain

If You Don't Ride In The Rain You Don't Ride PatchIf you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride. Well, we couldn't agree more. Some people will tell you not to ride in the rain as it is dangerous, but in some states, you might never get to ride at all if you didn't ride in the rain! And what might start as a sunny day can quickly turn into a downpour. Remember, as long as you are safe and don't take any unnecessary risks, riding in the rain can be enjoyable. Below are a few tips for safe riding in the rain.

  • The first thing to remember is to take it slowly. The amount of distance you need to stop increases when it is wet, so riding more slowly will help.
  • Take turns in a more upright position. The lower you lean to either side, the more chance there is that your motorcycle will skid, so staying upright and not waiting until the last minute to turn will counteract this.
  • Hydroplaning can be an issue when the roads are wet, so watch out for surface water again by slowing down.
  • Visibility is essential when out on the road; in some instances, the rain may hamper your visibility to such an extent that you just can't see what is in front of you. If this is the case, take some time out and wait until it is not so heavy.
  • Wear clothing that will allow you to be seen and include things such as motorcycle helmet decals on your helmet. It is important that other drivers can see you at all times.
