The Honda CBR900RR Fireblade

Honda CBR900RR FirebladeOne of Honda's most popular motorcycle models was the Honda CBR900RR, also called the Fireblade.  This bike first rolled off the assembly line in 1992.  These first models featured an 893 cc inline-four engine.  The bike was very lightweight for a motorcycle considered a super bike, weighing only about four pounds more than the Honda Hurricane CBR600F.  The CBR900RR was based on the CBR750RR, an advanced stage research bike.  Honda's plan was to create a bike that could rival the sports bikes of their competitors.

In 1994, Honda released the second generation Fireblade.  It featured a few changes, including a compression adjuster and a slightly new, more aggressive looking style.  The model was changed again in 1996 and again in 1998, although this fourth change was fairly subtle.  The CBR900RR became the CBR929RR in 2000, which featured a new, larger image.  That model was later updated to the CBR954RR, which again featured a larger 954 cc engine.  In 2004, the model was completely retired and replaced by the new CBR1000RR.  In some countries, this new model was still called the Fireblade.

The Fireblade has had a major impact on Honda's line, as well as sports bikes overall.  It sold very well thanks to the combination of its powerful engine and its precise handling.  The lightweight frame was also a selling point.  Today, the Fireblade is known as a solid choice for a used motorcycle that is very affordable.  While it's not perfect, it is a great little sports bike for beginners.
