Joe Cocker Dies Aged 70

Joe CockerThe Cheap Place would like to offer its condolences to the family of legendary singer Joe Cocker who passed away yesterday after a battle with lung cancer. Born in Sheffield in the UK, Cocker was famous for his gritty voice and had a number of hits here and across the water. He is most famously remembered for his cover of The Beatles classic With a Little Help from My Friends.

Fans rushed to pay tribute to the star with the unique voice who was a big hit at the Woodstock Festival in New York in 1969. His duet with Jennifer Warnes Up Where We Belong was number one in the US and won an Academy Award as well as a Grammy.

Cocker lived in Mad Dog Ranch, in Colorado with his wife Pam and had been battling lung cancer before passing away yesterday at the age of 70. He had previously battled a drug and alcohol addiction, which affected his ability to perform. In recent years, Cocker and his wife had immersed themselves in their Rocky Mountain lifestyle and one of his greatest passions was fly-fishing.

Cocker was popular with many bikers and played along other rock giants such as Tom Petty, Nickelback, and the Black Crowes at the 2006 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. His family and his many fans around the world will sorely miss him, we would like to take this opportunity to say RIP Joe.
