Motorcycle Club Events Show True Colors

image of a group of bikersWith the summer season comes a measurable increase in media-ready biker activity. However, the activity we are talking about is not centered on all of the negative things the media would have the general public believe about bikers. Rather, it is the charitable activity that shows the true colors of the American biker.

We are extremely proud of the biker community in this country. Motorcycle enthusiasts from coast-to-coast routinely donate their time, effort, and finances to helping very good causes. We have talked about some of these kinds of events in past posts; we want to draw your attention to a few more today.

While this is by no means an exhaustive list, we want to highlight the following:

  • Wyoming Valley MC: The Wyoming Valley Motorcycle Club in northeastern Pennsylvania recently got together to raise money for the local SPCA. Over the years, the annual run has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit animals in need. This year's run was the 18th annual ride to benefit the local SPCA of Luzerne County. A single ride can raise as much as $12,000.
  • Strength and Honor MC: The Strength and Honor Motorcycle Club out of Fredericksburg, Virginia worked with local police and a host of other motorcycle clubs to arrange for an escort of the body of Marine Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart of Stafford, Virginia. Stewart was one of three Marines recently killed during overseas combat operations in Afghanistan. The club's escort was designed to honor Sgt. Stewart and his sacrifice.
  • Rolling Thunder MC: In Staten Island, the local chapter of the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club donated American and POW flags to Public School 4. However, this wasn't just any donation. The flags were hand-delivered by the club who arrived at PS4 by way of a very impressive procession. They also led the students in a proper flag raising ceremony. News reports say many of the students came away very impressed by what they saw.

The Rolling Thunder flag donation was made even more special by the fact that PS4 students had donated $750 to the club earlier this year to help fund the club's charitable activities. This is a case of a local motorcycle club and its community working together to benefit worthy causes.

Join a Local Club

There are many bikers out there who prefer to remain independent due to the bad reputation motorcycle clubs tend to have. We understand that. Nevertheless, perhaps events like the ones we have listed here can provide the motivation you need to join a local club. Remember, it's only a very small percentage of bikers who create the negativity surrounding the biker lifestyle. Most motorcycle enthusiasts are great people always ready and willing to lend a helping hand.

If there isn't a club in your area to join, consider starting one of your own. You might establish a local chapter of a nationwide club like Rolling Thunder, or you might choose to start an independent club that could eventually charter other chapters in your state. In either case, establishing a motorcycle club is a great way to unite local bikers in a very positive way. It is something we hope you will think about.
