The post-Christmas sales are in full force now and, if recent shopping days such as Black Friday and Super Saturday are anything to go by, these sales will not save the holiday season for brick-and-mortar retailers.

The global economic downturn has made most of us more conscious about how much money we spend and many are more careful at this time of year. The days of spending just for the sake of it are long gone and we have become more frugal. It appears as though most of us will not just buy something because it is reduced in price. These days we will only buy something if we actually need it, regardless of the fact that it is now advertised as 'reduced by fifty percent' or something like that.

However, what does appear to be the case is that more and more of us are looking online when we want to buy something. Many shoppers will admit to seeing something in a bricks and mortar store but then head home to look online for the same thing, only cheaper. Online retailers can offer better discounts because they do not have the same overheads. And what could be better than shopping in the warmth and comfort of your own home while avoiding other shoppers intent on getting good deals. Shoppers these days just want to buy the things they need and do not really care where it comes from. At the end of the day, many shoppers are of the opinion that retailers should just 'Shut up and take my money'.
