The Native Americans have many interesting aspects to their cultures.  Their stories and legends are unlike any other.  One item from legend is the dreamcatcher.  While this beautiful decoration features in stories, it has also become very popular as a decorative item.  Today, many non-natives have dreamcatchers in their homes.

The dreamcatcher is made from string woven through a willow hoop in random lines that cross each other.  Small items such as beads or feathers are added for decoration.  The first dreamcatchers were made by the Ojibwe tribe and later spread to others through trade and intermarriage.  However, even though the dreamcatcher is a very old idea, it was actually not created by a wide number of Native American tribes until the 1960s after the Pan-Indian Movement.  Now, it is often used as a symbol of unity for all tribes in the Indian Nation.  Some natives, however, believe the dreamcatcher has become too commercialized and has been misappropriated by others.

The legend of the dreamcatcher says that in the beginning, the Ojibwe Nation was small.  The Spider Woman served as the tribe's protector and kept their children safe at night, but there came a time when the people spread too far for her reach.  In order to protect the children, she taught the women of the tribe to weave dreamcatchers.  This magic webs were weaved tight enough that bad dreams couldn't get through the spaces between the threads, but good dreams could.  They were often hung in the window above the children?s bed.

This large dreamcatcher eagle jacket back patch is one of the large patches on The Cheap Place that features both a dreamcatcher and an eagle.  It's a gorgeous patch that many people, especially Native American bikers, will love.
