Without Congress, Obama Goes to UN on Iran Nuke Deal

Barack ObamaIt is clear that Barack Obama is intent on reaching a nuke deal with Iran. It is also clear that Mr. Obama does not intend to allow the constitutional limits on jurisdiction to interfere with what he wants to do. He is going to get a deal that puts nuclear weapons in the hands of the Iranians whether the U.S. Congress wants it or not. How is he going to do it? By working with the United Nations Security Council.

Exactly when Obama began working on his UN strategy is unclear. But Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton and 46 other GOP senators made it clear, in a letter written directly to the Iranian government, that they had no plans to allow a deal to go through as long as things in Iran remain the same. The letter warned that any deal Obama reached would have to be approved by Congress before it could be enacted.

Knowing he does not have Congress on his side, Obama has apparently gone to the UN Security Council for help. No one knows exactly what they are working on, but there is plenty of speculation regarding a deal that would allow both nuclear weapons in Iran and the removal of current UN sanctions against the country. Iran would immediately benefit economically, politically and militarily. The big losers would be Israel and the United States.

Congressional End-Around

In what is becoming Obama's only workable strategy in the final two years of his presidency, he has again decided to do an end-around in order to bypass Congress. He claims that Congress will eventually get to vote on sanctions because the UN deal would only affect current UN sanctions. Any removal of U.S. sanctions would still require a congressional vote down the road. But that is a red herring. Down the road will be too late.

Mr. Obama couldn't care less about Iranian sanctions. What he's interested in is making sure Iran gets nuclear weapons. Why? Because he wants Iran to be the dominant power in the Middle East. For whatever reason, he believes a nuclear Iran would not be a threat to other U.S. allies in the region, including Saudi Arabia.

As for our relationship with Israel, Obama couldn't care less about that either. He has already made it clear that he despises both Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu, with some even speculating that he and his administration are financially linked to efforts in Israel to oust the standing Prime Minister. By all accounts, it would appear that Obama would love nothing more than to see Bibi go.

Another Middle Eastern War

Not all of this may be troubling to the legions of doves and isolationists who call America home. Nevertheless, it is very troubling to anyone who lives in the world of reality. The simple truth is that an Iran with nuclear weapons is one that will most certainly use those weapons in an attempt to destroy Israel. They will also likely use them as leverage to force our other Middle Eastern allies to abandon us. The inevitable result will be yet another war requiring Western allies to spill the blood of our young men and women in the deserts of western Asia.

Iran would never use nuclear weapons offensively, some say, they wouldn't be that stupid. Oh, really? Did you hear what Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a recent interview? When asked about the use of nuclear forces to aid in the cessation of Crimean last year, Putin said the following:

"We were ready to do it. I talked with colleagues and told them that this (Crimea) is our historic territory, Russian people live there, they are in danger, we cannot leave them."

The West has long suspected Putin of wanting to repossess all of Ukraine as a first step in reestablishing the former Soviet Union. We have a little bit more proof now that the Russian leader has acknowledged a willingness to nuke Ukraine. If Putin will go nuclear for Crimea, what makes anyone think Iran will not use nukes against Israel?

Barack Obama is intent to merely stand by and let Iran get nuclear weapons. He is intent on helping them do so. Never forget all the critics who still claim George Bush and Dick Cheney lied about WMDs in Iraq. Those same critics are claiming Iran does not intend to use nuclear weapons offensively. Bush and Cheney were not lying, and Israel is not lying now. An Iran with nuclear arms is a guarantee of World War III.
