A Cool Blue and Black Star

Blue Black Star PatchOne of the more popular patch designs is the nautical star.  This star symbol is used with a lot of the different United States naval and marine services.  They wear the star as an informal sign to show that they're in the navy or the marines.  The nautical star is actually a combination of two different symbols: the five-pointed star that appears in the upper left corner of the flag of the United States and the compass rose, the star found on many nautical charts and maps.  The compass rose has only four points, but each of those points is often split down the middle.  The left side of each of the points is shaded one color, while the right side is shaded another.  The nautical star combines the five points of the U.S. flag star with the shading of the compass rose.

The nautical star is also a very popular image in tattoo culture.  Those who get nautical star tattoos often do so with specific meanings in mind.  For example, if the star is placed on the wrist and is lined up with the thumb, some people see it as a sign of a positive future.  Some simply love how it looks or set it behind another image to give it an extra bit of color.  Sailors and others who work on the ocean may get a nautical star tattoo as a symbol of good luck.  Some wear the tattoo as a good luck symbol because it's often associated with finding the way home.

If you want to add a cool nautical star to your biker jacket, there are many different color schemes.  For example, there's this iron on Blue Black Star Patch that uses black and blue shading on the nautical star.
