The president of a motorcycle club has a lot of responsibility. While he or she might think the job doesn't really do that much when throwing their name into the ring on election day, once they get in office they may realize that even the smallest motorcycle clubs need a good amount of management. Most of that management falls on the shoulders of the club president.
While the president does have other elected officials to work with, such as the vice-president, secretary, treasurer, ride leader, and others, they often have to be the one who coordinates everything. The president usually runs the meetings and will set or help set the agenda. They may also be responsible for arranging the location for the meeting and setting the start time. This sometimes means reserving a building or restaurant. Running the club also means they have a hand in reviewing the budget, planning club events, and working to increase the club membership.
The president and other officers of a motorcycle club often receive some specific perks in exchange for their service. This is because in almost all clubs, these positions are unpaid. Officers volunteer their time, and in larger clubs, they may put in a good amount of work for the club. In return, some officers get a discount on club dues or receive some special items like a club patch for their jacket. For example, the president might get one of these really cool Reflective President patches to wear on his or her jacket.
