The El Solitario Imposter BMW R Nine T Custom Motorcycle ? The Most Hated Motorcycle in the World?

El Solitario Imposter BMW R Nine T Custom MotorcycleBMW has collaborated with a number of different customizers in the past, but normally their custom motorcycles aren't quite as universally hated as the R Nine T Imposter.  This motorcycle was built by BMW and El Solitario Motorcycle Club of Galicia, Spain.  The result is certainly very futuristic and different, but it's also, well, not very liked at all.  BMW often works with custom builders because they can get outside influence on the design, and these bikes can be a little more out there and innovative than what BMW can build in-house.  However, this one seems to have missed the mark with customers.

The Imposter was introduced on the website Bike EXIF.  Within a day, there were more than 100 comments added to the post and, while some praised the design for being unique, others called it a horrible, hideous motorcycle that no one would ever ride.  Most bikers agreed that the Imposter looked horrible, with some comparing it to a motorcycle that had crashed into a shopping cart.  Of course, there are some who do like and defend the bike's design, but overall, most people would not ride it.

Why call it the Imposter?  Head of El Solitario David Borras says he selected the name because the bodywork on the motorcycle isn't 'real'.  Instead, it was inspired by the wire models engineers often create when planning wind tunnels.  The bike itself is fairly transparent with lots of spaces going all the way through the body.  It is actually somewhat difficult to photograph because of this.

Even though most bikers don't like it, there's still something neat about an experimental bike.  Who knows, maybe someday bikers will be adding cheap patches to their jackets that feature the Imposter or the next generation of bikes inspired by it.
