It has been said that the secret to keeping a woman happy is to spoil her with jewelry, flowers, and lots of accolades. But Harley-Davidson would disagree. They commissioned a study back in 2013 to try to figure out what the ladies thought about riding motorcycles. And what did they discover? The way to keep your woman happy is to buy her a bike.
Harley-Davidson's study was conducted by a global market research and strategy company known as Kelton Research Inc. They surveyed approximately 2,030 adult females, among which about half were regular bike riders. Their findings make it clear that women are happier when they have access to their own motorcycles and plenty of open road.
According to the survey:
- 53% say riding is a major source of happiness
- 74% say their lives have improved since they started riding
- 37% of riders and 16% of non-riders classify themselves as always happy
- 27% of riders and 7% of non-riders say they feel sexy
- 35% of riders and 18% of non-riders say they are self-confident.
The authors of the study crunched numbers and came to a number of significant conclusions. First of all, they say that women who regularly ride enjoy better communication with their partners or spouses. They enjoy better intimacy and greater satisfaction with the state of their romantic relationships.
The Riding Lifestyle
So what is it about riding a motorcycle that tends to make women happier? As much as we'd like to think it's Harley-Davidson, the actual machine is probably not relevant at all. Most of it is probably due to the fact that riding with others creates bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, if you will, through a common passion and shared experiences. It is likely the same type of survey conducted among various types of athletes would produce similar results.
We love motorcycles because we love the opportunity to enjoy the open road and the freedom it affords. When you can share those experiences with others, lives are enriched as a result. It's no wonder the motorcycle lifestyle leads to greater happiness and satisfaction.

Harley-Davidson used the results of the survey as a way to encourage people to get involved with the biker lifestyle. We couldn't agree more. You are never too old or stuck in your ways to try something new. What's more, there's a full range of bikes out there to meet anyone's needs. There are touring bikes, racing bikes, and all sorts of road machines with different engine sizes. There are even trikes and inverted trikes for those who want three wheels underneath them.
We encourage you to try out the biker lifestyle for yourself by riding along with someone you know. If you do decide to get your own machine, make sure to take some training courses prior to riding solo. Riding is fun, but it can be dangerous if you're not properly trained.
