Meet Voxan Wattman, The World's Fastest Electric Motorcycle

voxan-motorcycle-01No, Voxan Wattman isn't the name of some foreign broad; it's a new electric motorcycle that was recently unveiled to the public at the 2013 Paris Motor Show. While electric motorcycles aren't a new concept by any means, this one is turning heads due to its power and performance capabilities. Voxan has even made the bold claim it's the "world's most powerful electric motorcycle."

So, what's the Voxan Wattman packing behind its sleek and stylish frame? Powered only by a battery (not a gas-electric hybrid like some models), the Wattman produces an impressive 200 horsepower and 200 NM of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-160 mph (yes, that's one hundred mph) in just 5.9 seconds. It boasts a top speed of 170 mph for all of you speed junkies looking to push the limits on a closed course.

While the jury is still out regarding this claim, the previous holder of the "world's most powerful electric motorcycle" is the Lightning Motorcycles SuperBike. The SuperBike creates just 165 mph, which is a significant amount less power than the Wattman's 200 mph.

Another key selling point of the Voxan Wattman is its lack of transmission. I know what you're thinking -- how can this bike operate without a transmission? The Voxan Wattman features a basic drive belt that, along with the broad turns of the motor, omit the need for shifting. It's a highly advanced motorcycle that takes a surprisingly simplistic approach to driving.

Like most of the electric vehicles on the market, though, there are some drawbacks to the Voxan Wattman, one of which is the battery. The company didn't reveal any specs regarding the Wattman's battery, but some analysts suggest that it could weigh as much as 220 pounds. Considering the fact that the entire bike's weight (without the battery) is under 700 pounds, that's a serious chunk of weight! Placing a 200+ pound battery on the bike may cause a slight loss in performance and handling.

When the bike is operating at "full tilt," the included battery will only have enough charge for about 5 minutes of use, which isn't going to get you very far down the road. The good news is that you don't have to operate the Voxan Wattman at full tilt to feasibly use it on the road.

Pricing and availability of the Voxan Wattman has yet to be announced, so if you're looking to get behind this 200-mph electric bike, you'll have to keep waiting! In the meantime, check out the company's official website for more details regarding the Wattman.
