Are you Radioactive? Warn People with a Patch!

Radioactive patchDo you consider yourself radioactive?  If so, you need to warn people.  There are a lot of different waste materials that are marked with the international symbol for radioactivity.  This Radioactive Patch recreates that symbol perfectly.  It's a circular patch, just like the symbol is circular, and features three black triangles evenly spaced out around an inner circle.  It's one of the Funny Patches you can find on The Cheap Place.

Many people didn't realize that radioactive substances were harmful at all.  It wasn't until physicist Nikola Tesla studied how X-rays were affecting people that he realized they were causing burns.  He didn't realize it was the radiation at that time, but others built on his research and discovered that not only did radioactivity cause burns but that it also caused genetic defects and damage.  One of the most famous cases of radioactive poisoning is Marie Curie, who most likely died from exposure to ionizing radiation.  That's why it's now required that this warning symbol now appears on all radioactive containers.

This symbol is called the trefoil symbol.  It was first used in 1946 by the University of California, although at that time, the black parts were colored pink and the background was blue, not yellow.  This version is actually still used in the U.S., but the international version of black on yellow is used as well.

This circular patch measures three inches across.  Why wear this on your jacket or vest?  Well, if you tend to pass gas a lot, you might be considered radioactive, especially if it stinks!  Warn people away from you by ironing or sewing this patch onto your clothing.
