We Survived Hurricane Matthew, Got Very Lucky Indeed!

Hurricane Matthew's eye was projected to make landfall around Melbourne area at 8 am on Friday morning. We had our house and the warehouse boarded up with plywood and were hoping for the best. We took all the patches from the lower drawers and raised them up higher incase floods were inevitable.

Got very lucky indeed, The hurricane brought in very light rain. We were about 3 miles inland so the storm surge didn't really affect us. And the last minute when the hurricane was about the make landfall it decided to do a wobble out to the east keeping the eye and its dangerous 130 mph winds out over the ocean.

The wind we got in Port Orange was around 60 mph with gusts taking it up to 90 mph. I was up at 6 am on Friday and it was looking real bad and checking the internet it was saying the winds were only 45 mph. This was quite a freaky situation, there we were thinking, if its this bad now what was going to happen when the winds got to 130 mph? Luckily we never had to find out. Call it an act of God, we really got saved the last minute as that Eye decided to wobble out of land.

We also got very lucky not to lose power. I think Florida Power and Light has about 170,000 customers in Volusia County and 160,000 customers are without power. This puts us in the 1% of customers who never really lost power (I think it went out for 20 minutes tops). We definitely take electricity for granted. It sucks not to have it, especially after a hurricane when the humidity is at its max and sun is blazing.

I got on my Bike yesterday and drove around taking some photos. Take a look at what I saw. We'll be headed over to the beach side for more photos later this afternoon. I hope everyone made it out alright. Last I checked they were 2 deaths. One lady had a tree fall on her, and another one had a heart attack in the middle of the night and emergency services couldn't get to them for 4 hours due to high winds.
