We already know that embroidered patches are a great way to identify members of a group; whether that group is a motorcycle club, a civic organization, a sports team, or so on. We also know that a brand-new group without its own "colors" will sometimes choose to use a stock patches because they think designing and creating their own is too expensive. But when you deal with a company like The Cheap Place, having your own custom colors is easy and relatively inexpensive. All they need to create patches for your group is a digital copy of your unique design.
When you're designing your own colors you can do so in a couple of ways. The first is to make it reflect the group's name. One example would be the Hells Angels motorcycle club. Their colors feature the golden wings of an angel with a face that represents a demon. It's a perfect graphical representation of the name they've chosen.
On the other end of the spectrum is another motorcycle club known as Bikers for Christ. This group's colors are more tailored to their ideals and purpose rather than their name. The BFC colors reveal a sword, an open Bible, and a very subtle image representing the face we all associate with Jesus Christ. The symbolism all has very specific meaning demonstrating their commitment to bring the Christian faith to the motorcycle community.
However you decide to design your colors do your best to make them your own. Copying someone else's work, or even borrowing heavily from it, is not well received among groups that have their own colors. Be as original as you can in order to set yourself apart and ensure you have colors you're proud of; colors that will identify you much better than stock patches.
