If you are thinking about moving the position of the handlebars on your motorcycle but are worried that won't be able to do it on your own, here is a step by step process to help you move those handlebars for a more comfortable ride. The first thing you will want to do is to make sure that your bike is parked on a flat surface in an area with plenty of lighting. Most people prefer to do this outside as natural light is the best illuminator around.
When you have your work area set up, examine your handlebars to find the clamps. These are found under the handlebars on the steering column, and each of these two clamps will have a set of bolts on them. Most of the time these bolts require the use of a rachet or an allen wrench to remove. To figure out which tool your bike will need, just examine the bolts themselves or refer to the owner's manual to see what they recommend using. After you have found the right tool, loosen the bolts. Be sure that you do not remove the bolts completely, but rather that you get them loose enough that they allow the handlebars to freely move backwards and forwards without too much resistance.
Now, sit on the bike and move the handlebars until you are completely satisfied with their location. This should be the position that is best suited to you and how you ride your bike. You want your arms to hang comfortably. Once this position has been established you reverse the process and tighten the bolts back into place.
