Using Patches to Educate

This coming fall I'll be teaching a U.S. government course to students from a local homeschool group my wife and I started some nine years ago. The course will begin in September and run through April of next year. I designed it to be an interactive course which will include running a campaign for president, having a mock election, setting up a cabinet and military installation, installing legislators and judges, and then hoping it all coalesces into a working model.

In order to help designate who has what position within our miniature government I got the idea to purchase some stock patches from The Cheap Place. They have all of the main ones including president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. For some of the military officers they have patches designated captain, lieutenant, sergeant at arms, and so on. Enlisted men might have patches that say weapons specialist or tail gunner.

I have to admit, I was amazed at how many stock patches from The Cheap Place were applicable to this project. I just looked in the MC Rank Patches section where most of these were found. There are a couple of others I'll need to have custom made, but they are cheap enough that it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm hoping this course goes a long way to teaching my students how government is supposed to work as opposed to how it currently operates. If it proves to be a success I may continue repeating it multiple times over the next few years.

Thanks go to The Cheap Place for having all the stock patches I need. If you're part of a club or group that could benefit from using embroidered patches, you should check out their inventory today. They have a lot of great stuff!
