The Sunshine Patch

Florida PatchIf Florida is known as the Sunshine State, it's time they also have a Sunshine patch. I nominate the Florida patch found in the State Rocker Patches section at The Cheap Place. It's a 4" white-on-black rocker that you would normally wear on the back of the jacket with a large back patch.

I chose this one today because I had what I think is an excellent idea. Rather than combine it with a back patch, you can use the entire back of your jacket as a canvas for a whole bunch of state rockers.

What I'm getting at is the idea of sewing a new state rocker to the back of your jacket whenever you visit a new state. It would almost be like the Buckeye symbols on the backs of Ohio State football helmets. Every time you visit a new state on goes a new rocker; the obvious goal is to collect all 50. That would give you more than enough reason to keep riding your bike well into your retirement years.

I have a relative who's not a biker, but she's on a quest to visit every state in the union as well. She buys state magnets to display on her refrigerator with every annual trip. Hopefully she'll have a complete map some day. So you see, the precedent for my idea is already there - you're just exchanging magnets for patches. And I think that's appropriate when we're talking about bikers. Wouldn't you agree?
