This Fleur De Lis Patch Will Add a Bit of Color to Your Jacket

Fleur De Lis PatchThe Cheap Place offers many in stock patches featuring sayings, flags, and state names, but they also have a number of Small Cool Patches that you can use to decorate your jackets and vets.  While most of these patches do have some sort of meaning, a lot of people use them only for decorative purposes.  The Fleur De Lis Patch Yellow is one of these decorative patches that can add a little color to your dark jacket.  It measures 3.5 by 3.5 inches, but it's not a square.  The patch instead is shaped like the symbol rather than having the symbol embroidered on a black background.  It does have black die cut edges that make it easy to sew it onto leather, however.

In French, 'Fleur' means flower and 'Lis' means lily.  The image itself is based on the lily, only highly stylized.  It was often used in the family crests of the French, and it can actually have symbolic and political meanings, although today it's mostly just decorative.  Historically, it has been used by the French, but it has also appeared on flags and banners of the King of Spain and of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.  Some religious organizations use it as a way of representing the Holy Trinity or as an icon for the archangel Gabriel.

Modern usage of the Fleur De Lis varies.  Some military groups continue to use it on their banners, as do some sports teams.  The Chevrolet car company has worked the image into several of their car's emblems, and the Campbells soup company uses it as its logo, as well.
