Be Prepared for a Road Trip

With the Fall upon us brings some of the best Biker events all year. It is time to start getting you and your bike ready to take a road trip.

First on a list of must haves is a safety kit. Tool kits come with most bikes, but be sure to have various wrenches, pliers, wire cutters and maybe an all in one tool . Be sure to pack extra spark plugs, chain oil, fuses and bulbs. Duct tape can help with unexpected mechanical issues. Tire repair kits are a necessity as blowouts are frequent. A flat tire kit should be in the kit with a co2 cartridge for inflation.

Along with tools you will need a first aid kit. It is best to buy one pre-made  so that you will have everything that you will need for an exhaust burn or another emergency.

Finally, your bike needs a quick inspection. Using an air pressure monitor, check the pressure in both tires. Don't forget to pack the air pressure monitor to take with you. Check your clutch cables and your brake cables and be sure all controls are in working condition. Make sure your brake lights and your turn signals are working as well as your high and low beams.

All of your important cards should be readily available, license, registration and your health insurance card is always good to carry on the road.

The last little tip can actually be pretty huge. If you will be using a credit/debit card write on signature slot "ASK FOR IDENTIFICATION". You can write over your signature with a permanent marker. Thieves are not likely to score off of you.
