Just like various sports and entertainment organizations have their halls of fame, so do police officers. And this year, the American Police Hall Of Fame welcomes its newest inductee by way of 21,000 members. That inductee is the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, the largest law enforcement motorcycle club in the world. The Blue Knights got their start in Bangor, Maine in 1974 and have since grown to include chapters in 28 countries including the U.S.
In order to be a Blue Knight one must be an active or retired police officer and love motorcycle riding. The group is similar to other clubs in that it has a specific fraternal purpose. In their case, they exist to support police organizations around the world through charitable work, bereavement support, and a host of other activities. The club's custom motorcycle patch designates the group's mission by showing a "knight in shining armor" atop a white horse with a motorcycle wheel.
Interestingly enough, many of the local Blue Knights chapters have their own patches aside from the national club patch. Some of them are similar while others are drastically different. Nonetheless, any patched member of the organization will have access to the national club patch for use on a vest or jacket.
If you belong to a smaller or newer motorcycle and you don't yet have your own colors, consider submitting a design to a patch seller like The Cheap Place. In addition to carrying stock patches The Cheap Place can also create custom club patches for your members based on your design. All you need to do is contact them and send your design along. In no time at all you'll have your own club patches to distribute as you see fit.
