Child's Play

For many parents it is pure joy to share their love of riding with their kids. It is a bit controversial as some view this as dangerous for kids. When you are passionate about something it is a great way to spend positive time with your children. While this is a great way to introduce a new rider to the sport there are precautions that need to be taken.

They must be able to reach the foot pegs and have the strength to hold on tight. They need to be mature enough to take and follow directions as well as the lead of the driver. If they are frightened it is best to wait until they grow out of it as fear will make the ride risky. They need to be able to remain calm during the ride.

Gear, gear, and more gear! Starting with a DOT approved children's helmet. Be sure the chin strap is firmly in place. Adult helmets will not offer the protection needed and may fly off in the event of a crash.

Street gear for children may be a little challenging. You may need to be creative and put together riding clothes to keep them as safe as possible. Blue jeans and gloves and a protective jacket that fits well enough for armor to stay in place.

Finally, remind your children to hold on, avoid the hot exhaust pipe and keep their feet on the foot pegs. It is never good to place a child in from of you. There are protective straps to hold your child in place as well as handholds on the operators back and chest.
