Choosing a Ride's Destination

When you set out to take a ride on your motorcycle, do you always know where you're going?  Some people ride to work or on errands, but that's not quite the same as going out for a long weekend ride with your buddies or your biker club.  Settling on a destination, whether it's just for you or for a group, does require a little bit of thought.  You have to take into account a number of different factors.

How long will your ride be?  If you're just got a Saturday afternoon, you're not going to be able to go very far.  You need to remember to double the length, too, you're most likely not travelling one way but making a round trip.  You also need to take a look at what the weather forecast has to say and factor in some extra time in case it does get bad.

Is there any special reason to visit someplace?  Maybe you're looking to add a few new biker patches to your jacket, so you want to ride to a specific store or location for that.  If there are patches for sale, bikers may ride a few hours? away just to pick them up at a discount.  You might also plan a longer ride to visit some out of town friends or relatives.

If you have the whole weekend, you may decide to ride somewhere, stay the night, and ride back the next day.  This means you'll need to factor in lodging.  If you're riding with a group, make sure everyone is fine with this extra expense.  Some people may not want to spend the extra money to stay in a hotel.

Remember to put a little bit of planning into your longer motorcycle rides to guarantee that everything goes off as it should and you have a lot of fun.
