The Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), the largest international motorcycle club with a Christian mission, is preparing for this year's edition of the annual Run for the Son scheduled for Saturday, May 5 (2012). The ride acts as the major fundraiser for the group with monies collected being used to further their message of the Christian gospel around the world. The CMA has been holding the run for the last 24 years and has raised, to date, more than $37 million.
The most interesting aspect of the Run for the Son is the fact that the CMA only keeps 40% of the money raised. The other 60% gets distributed among a handful of Christian ministries around the world to aid in their evangelical and ministry efforts. Either way, virtually all of the money raised is used to fund the evangelical and ministry efforts. The CMA attends motorcycle rallies, bike shows, and motorcycle sporting events where they offer free water and coffee, gospel literature, a listing ear, prayer and counseling support, and worship services.
The CMA's custom club patch is a very simple design featuring a triangle shape with banners above and below, a blue shield, and a Bible and hand right in the center. It goes without saying that most club colors have significance in saying something about the group, and the CMA is no exception. They exist to take the truth of the Bible to any motorcyclists who are willing to listen. And they do so regardless of denomination, church affiliation, or any other factor that might be divisive. To earn the CMA colors and become "patched" applicants must profess Jesus Christ as Savior and complete a Ministry Team Training course, whereupon they can join a local chapter in their area.
