Covering Embroidery with an Embroidered Patch

Last year I wrote several blog posts about using embroidered patches to repair clothing. I got the idea from a news story out of the UK in which an enterprising young mother was able to stretch the life of her children's clothing by repairing holes with embroidered patches. Her idea worked so well that she turned it into a business that spread across the UK and even came to the States. Along those same lines, let me propose another great use for embroidered patches.

I have a very nice looking dress shirt embroidered with the name and logo of an organization I used to belong to. Upon leaving that organization I was instructed that I was no longer able to wear the shirt in public so as to not engender confusion about my relationship with them. Unfortunately, I love the shirt! It is a deep navy blue with a cut and style that makes it appropriate for both formal and business-casual use. The thing is; I really hate to just throw it away. And I can't pass it on to someone else because of the logo issue.

By now you've probably already figured out where I'm going with this. I decided to cover the existing embroidery with an embroidered patch. I looked around at The Cheap Place and found a really nice second amendment patch that's just the right size. I can't wait for it to arrive so I can mount it up and see what looks like. I have a feeling that what used to be a really nice shirt will become one of my favorites to wear.

If you have clothing with embroidery you're no longer happy with, don't throw it away. Spend a few dollars on a patch and just cover it up!
