If you are someone who enjoys going on long distance motorcycle rides, then you might often find yourself wondering if there is a better way to make the journey than to just travel the traditional interstate routes that so many travelers often take. These routes will get you where you're going, but they're also pretty boring. However, there are a number of ways you can make your ride more enjoyable than it might otherwise be so you're not stuck staring at nothing more than miles and miles of blacktop and traffic.
By deviating just a little off of the beaten path, you will find scenic stops, roadside attractions, and out of the way diners and rest areas that make motorcycling cross country that much more enjoyable. One of the first things to do when you are planning your route is to look for any neat and interesting roadside attractions that you might find on the back roads. For example, the largest rocking chair, or the world's biggest ball of yarn, or perhaps you are looking for something like a hidden entrance to underground caverns beneath a seemingly plain souvenir shop. All of these things exist, and you can discover them simply by taking a different route.
Don't forget that each state you travel through also has a wealth of historic and interesting sites that might better be viewed from a motorcycle. Sometimes small scenic details are lost on car travelers, whereas motorcyclists are better able to appreciate them without all the clutter of a vehicle. You can also make a game of it and collect motorcycle patches along the way to show the different areas you've been. Just remember, the roads might be a little rougher, but you get to enjoy your ride a whole lot more.
