Curves are one of the many things that make Colorado a world-famous destination. It requires an immense network of hairpins to get over and around the thousands of peaks and and seven distinct mountain ranges. The network is pretty much heaven for the riders combined with the dramatic alpine scenery.
Swooping left and right and left and right up a steep incline is an experience a motorcyclist has that you will not get in a car. Bikers also have a 360-degree view of the world around them. There is very little traffic on these well rounded mountain roads the two -lane tarmac making it an easy ride.
Higher altitudes make it necessary for riders to keep a diligent watch on weather since it is so unpredictable. It is easier to count on clear roads and comfortable temperatures between May and September. In Colorado high country riders used to the wide open flat roads of flatter states should prepare for a shorter rides. Speeds are slower and, the roads curve more and there is more to see. You might want to get on the road around 9am and looking for a place to stay around 3 or 4pm if you are taking it easy.
Riders should also factor a little off-bike exploring as there are historic towns and past ghost towns on many of Colorado's mountain routes.
