Deciding on a Brand of Motorcycle

What type of motorcycle do you ride?  Chances are, you didn't simply pick one at random.  You might have looked over a number of different models, read up on each one, and got some opinions from different bikers.  But in the end, you're the one who makes the final decision (and pays the final bill).  How do you go about deciding which motorcycle you want?  Well, you probably don't want to base your decision on which brand has the cooler motorcycle patches!  But there are some different things you do want to take into account, including the final price and how old the motorcycle is.

If you already have a brand you like, you can quickly narrow down your options.  But if you don't, the best thing to do would be to do some research online.  Check out reviews and look for message boards where you can ask questions of other bikers.  You might also want to visit a dealer and take a look as some of the bikes.  While reading about them is great, you can't really get to know a bike without sitting on it and touching it.  The dealers can also answer any of your questions and give you an idea of which brand of motorcycle may best fit you.

You also need to take into consideration where you'll be riding.  Some bikes are definitely more comfortable for long-distance trips than others, while some motorcycles are made for shorter, daily trips.  Also, how much luggage will you typically by carrying?  You may need to look for bikes with large saddlebags or that can pull a trailer.  Either way, once you pick a brand, you'll be able to buy matching t-shirts, biker patches, and other items.
