Dogs on Motorcycles

If you have a pet dog and enjoy going out and hitting the open road on your bike, you might want to take your furry friend along with you on your rides.  There are actually a number of different ways to safely take your dog along with you.  So if you are thinking about taking your dog with you on your rides, one of the first things you need to do is to consider the personality and size of your dog.

The reason to do to this is because it will help you determine what the best method of putting your dog on the bike is.  For example, if you have a relatively small dog that is pretty laid back, then you might look into getting them riding saddlebags.  These bags go over the back end of the bike just like regular saddlebags, except one side has a mesh dog crate.  You can open the front so they can stick their heads out and enjoy the experience, and you personalize it with motorcycle patches if you want.  If your pooch is really well behaved, there are passenger seat mounts that are completely open so they can ride behind you.  This isn't recommended if your dog has never traveled by bike, though.

However, if you have a bigger dog, then you will definitely need a different option.  Many riders have adapted sidecars to allow their dogs to ride with them.  It will be important to work with your dog when using this method because there isn't a lot of safety gear to keep them in the seat, and you don't want them jumping out unexpectedly.  All in all, though, there are plenty of options for motorcycle lovers and their best friends.
