There were days when if you wanted to add some flair or excitement to your bags, riding gear, or clothing, the only way to accomplish this was to learn how to embroider yourself or to buy items that were professionally done. However, the increase in production of iron on patches means that this is no longer necessarily the case. You can easily customize any number of different items on your own simply by taking the time to pick out a decorative patch that conveys the way you feel without having to learn how to sew or pay higher prices for specially made clothing.
The hardest part of the entire process will be picking out one of the many iron on patches that best displays your personality. The artwork on the patches is so well done and intricately detailed that they look every bit as good as those jackets, bags, etc., that have been professionally tailored. After you have decided which patch to use, you will then need to mark out the placement of the patch. You will want it to be somewhere that it is noticeable but not too much of a hindrance. For example, if you put a patch on the strap of a bag it will not stay long because of the constant use and friction. It would probably work better on the front or on a pocket.
The only hesitation about using iron on patches is the fact that they cannot be ironed onto leather items. When attaching them to leather you will want to sew them on instead so that the heat does not scar or damage the leather. You can sew them on around the edges either by hand or by machine.
