Making the Motorcycle Switch for Daily Commuters

When you are driving to work each day, the gas prices can really seem like a slap in the face.  You may only be driving a few miles to and from work, but these miles can really add up on your vehicle's gas consumption.  One alternative to consider is to ride a motorcycle.  Motorcycles are known for their high gas mileage, and buying a bike can help cut the cost of your daily drive.  It's also a lot of fun.  There are many different options to think over before you make the plunge, though.

First of all, you need to be sure that your state does not require a separate motorcycle test for you to be licensed to operate a motorcycle on the road.  Some states just require a written test, while others actually have a driving test.  No matter what, study the laws and requirements in your area before you even start looking for a bike.  It is important to weigh the start up costs of getting a motorcycle (insurance, tags, purchase price, etc) when considering if it would be worth it for you to switch from a car commute to a motorcycle one.

If you live ten to fifteen miles (or more) away from where you work and you have to travel a lot of clogged interstate roads, then it will probably be worth it for you to switch, as most of your time is spent idling in traffic.  Also, you will want to consider getting a smaller bike since they take less gas to operate.  A 250 cc. bike should easily fulfill all of your commuting needs.  The bigger bikes may look cooler, but they will take more gas.
