Making Your Own Patches is Easy

Did you know you can make your own motorcycle patches for your jackets, vests, and other cloth and leather items?  While buying patches you like is by far the easier way of collecting patches, what do you do if you just can't find that patch you want?  Or maybe you want a customized patch with your name on it or the name of your biker club on it?  In that case, you have two options: you can pay a company that does custom patches to create one for you, or you can make one yourself.  The second option is by far the cheaper, plus you get to learn how to make patches!

Making patches yourself involves a few things.  First, you'll need to purchase blank patches.  These blank patches come in several different shapes and sizes.  You'll find rectangular ones, rockers, circular patches, and more.  One thing to note is that these blank patches do not come with the iron-on plastic backing that makes it so easy to attach patches to your clothing.  This is because the plastic backing would make it difficult to sew your designs onto the patch.  Be ready to sew your final patches on to your clothing.

Now that you have these blank patches, it's time to embroider your design on them.  You will need to be able to do a few of the basic embroidery stitches, but they are very easy to learn.  You'll probably want to sketch your patch on paper so you have an idea of how to center it on the patch and where each color should go.  Like anything else, embroidery is a skill you have to work at, so you may need to get a few extra blank patches to practice on.
