A lot of times when people think of motorcycle groups, they picture the lawless gangs that were the stereotype during the latter half of last century. However, the truth is that there are a number of motorcycle riding groups that do a lot to help out their community as well as support and provide information to other motorcycle enthusiasts. There is a special bond between people who enjoy riding bikes, and a motorcycle club is a great way for them to get together and share their experiences, interesting riding paths, and riding tips with others who understand their love of riding.
Besides being a place to share information and knowledge about riding, it can also be a place for bikers to work together to protect themselves from outside infringement. There have been a number of motorcycle groups which have worked to pass new laws to help keep bikers safe as well as prevent laws from being passed that would unnecessarily infringe on their rights to ride. This kind of support system is needed within the motorcycle community at large, and it draws support from its members (who often pay dues and have elected officials just like any other group) and other bikers who believe in standing up for their rights.
Some modern motorcycle groups focus on providing a community for specific types of riders, like Women's International Motorcycle Association, Leather and Lace, Women in the Wind, and Dykes on Bikes. Others create communities for brand lovers, like the Harley Owners Group (HOG), the Triumph Owners, Motorcycle Club, and BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. These groups usually display motorcycle patches conveying their brand loyalty.
Modern motorcycle clubs are exactly the opposite of the lawless stereotype that bikers have had to endure. They provide support to their members and to their community in general.
