Have you found what you thought was the perfect patch only to discover that it doesn't quite fit in that spot on your jacket? What about one that you thought would match only to find out that the coloring is just a little bit off? Sometimes, there's not much you can do about that. But every now and then, you'll get a patch that you can make a few small adjustments to so that it works perfectly for what you want.
One way of modifying a patch is to cut parts of it off. Now, that may seem a little extreme and kind of alarming to people who aren't very comfortable doing crafts and such. However, those who have experience sewing and doing other crafts know that it's not that difficult to snip a few bits off here and there. With patches, the most difficult aspect is that the material is fairly thick. You may need a special pair of heavy duty scissors in order to make nice, clean cuts. You also don't want to cut too close to the thread or you might mess up the image. Remember, too, that you'll be cutting off some of the borders around the patch, which might make it more difficult to sew it on.
Another way of modifying a patch is to add more to it. With some patches, you can actually add your own embroidery. Note, however, that the plastic melt-on adhesive on the back of most patches does make this fairly difficult, and you won't be able to use that adhesive to put your patch onto your clothing if you do this. If you plan on sewing the patch on, though, it shouldn't be a problem to add a little to the design.
