You want to let people know where to meet, how long your ride is going to last, and when they should expect to get back home. It's really the same information you'd need to give to your friends no matter what activity you were planning.
If you're organizing a ride for your club or if you're opening it up to anyone in the area who wants to ride with you, you may need to make things a little more official. You may need to go through your club's officers or the designated member who is in charge of putting together rides. You'll need to have a captain to lead the group and a rider at the back to make sure no one gets lost. You'll also need to advertise the ride a few weeks or more in advance so that people will show up.
Organizing your own ride can be a lot of fun, especially since you get to pick the destination and the path in most cases. But remember that you need to be realistic about how far you can ride and how many times someone will need to stop, especially if you're planning a long trek.
