Organizing a Ride

Joining in a motorcycle ride with a club or other group can be a lot of fun, but in some areas, there seem to be very few rides.  If that's the case in your area, you can always organize your own biker ride.  However, it's not quite as simple as just calling people up and asking if they want to ride.

If you're putting together an informal ride, then it may really be almost as simple as calling your friends.  However, you do need to have a date, a start time, a destination, and an approximate end time.  You want to let people know where to meet, how long your ride is going to last, and when they should expect to get back home.  It's really the same information you'd need to give to your friends no matter what activity you were planning.

If you're organizing a ride for your club or if you're opening it up to anyone in the area who wants to ride with you, you may need to make things a little more official.  You may need to go through your club's officers or the designated member who is in charge of putting together rides.  You'll need to have a captain to lead the group and a rider at the back to make sure no one gets lost.  You'll also need to advertise the ride a few weeks or more in advance so that people will show up.

Organizing your own ride can be a lot of fun, especially since you get to pick the destination and the path in most cases.  But remember that you need to be realistic about how far you can ride and how many times someone will need to stop, especially if you're planning a long trek.
