Patches for your Cap

What do you do when you run out of room on your jacket or vest for cool sew on patches?  Find other places to put them.  One place you can put a small patch is on your baseball cap or other type of hat.  In fact, pull down wool caps can have two or three patches on them if they're fairly small.  There are even some embroidered patches made specifically for caps.  These patches are made to sit on the bill of your baseball cap, so the bottom is flat while the top is rounded.

You don't necessarily have to use these cheap biker patches for your caps, though.  Any small patch will work.  Long patches don't work as well on baseball caps because the edges run off the main front part onto the mesh sides.  You can't really use the heat activated backing because it will melt through the mesh.  You can sew them on, but it may not be held as securely as it would be on regular material.  If you're going to add patches to wool caps, though, you can use any size.  In fact, you could stack a few wide but short patches around the cap.

Other than the size restriction, there's really nothing else you have to consider when looking for patches for your hats.  You just have to avoid the large patches.  You can sew or iron on patches onto your hats just as you can with any other item.  While wool hats and baseball caps are the most common types of hats you'll wear while riding, there are other hats out there that can be decorated with patches.  It's a great place to put your favorite little patch since it will be seen more clearly than if it were on your jacket.
