One of the best things, maybe THE best thing about being a biker, is taking a long ride on a sunny day. Springtime is a great time for riding, and if you are in the vicinity of Wichita Falls, TX, there are some great places to ride.
Lake Arrowhead is an old-standby when it comes to motorcycle riding. A lovely little lake located just southwest of Wichita Falls, it offers great views, picnic areas, and even camping. Similarly, Lake Wichita offers some nice views, and it's located within the city limits, which is good if you are just looking for a short jaunt. For a bit longer drive, the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge is just an hour north of Wichita Falls, through pretty grass and farmlands. The wildlife refuge features a small mountain range, lakes, and wildlife of all varieties, including bison, elk, deer, bobcats, and armadillos. Don't forget your military patch on your jacket as Fort Sill is just a short drive away.
If you're looking for a more intellectual outing, take a drive down to Archer City. While it's more about the ride than the destination, this destination is certainly unique. Archer City offers a downtown experience unlike any other, featuring a massive used bookstore spread over a number of buildings. On the other hand, maybe you are just itching for a good time. The casinos just north of the Red River are sure to be just what you are looking for in an evening's entertainment. They are only about 30 minutes north of Wichita Falls.
