Are you ready for Veterans Day? It is officially celebrated on Sunday, November 11. This day was created to honor the veterans of the various branches of the U.S. military. On this day, families and friends celebrate the lives of those in the service. Unlike Memorial Day, which involves remembering those who died in the military, Veterans Day involves celebrating all veterans of the military.
There's not as much preparation into Veterans Day as there is for other major holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas. However, there are a few things you can do. If you're taking your special veteran out to lunch or dinner, you may want to make reservations, especially if you're going to a popular restaurant. Because it's a Sunday, lunch places will often be crowded with people who just got out of church. That can make lunches somewhat difficult, unless you do either an early brunch or a late lunch. You may want to do dinner instead. Another option is to go out to lunch or dinner on Monday. Although it's not Veterans Day proper, most state and federal employees will have the day off.
You may also want to give the veterans in your life a gift or two. There are many options here. You can give them something related to the military or that is patriotic, or you can get them something that goes with one of their hobbies. For example, if he or she loves to ride motorcycles, you can get him/her a cool motorcycle patch or two. There are even some patches designed just for veterans. You can put these patches on items if you like, or you can give them the patches by themselves and let them put the patches on whatever they like.
