Repairing and Reusing Old Biker Gear

It's always sad when you have to retire a piece of your favorite biker gear.  Your jacket, hat, gloves, and other items have been with you for years and have traveled all over with you.  While it's not always possible to repair or reuse everything, you don't always have to say goodbye to your favorite items.  With some, you can use biker patches to cover rips and tears, while with other items you may need to do some major work on to turn them into something completely different.

Jackets and vests are the easiest items to repair.  Often, you can put a biker patch over the rip or the damaged area and continue wearing the item for years.  Of course, if the rip goes all the way through, it may be more difficult to repair, but usually putting a patch on the inside and the outside will do it.  You can also repair jeans and other pants with patches, but it's a bit more difficult because you'll only be able to use small patches, and any patch put on the knee will need to be able to bend a lot.

If you can't repair an item, such as a glove, you (or someone you know) may be able to transform it into something else.  For example, there are tutorials online that show you how to cut off the fingers of a glove, sew the openings shut, and turn it into a small pouch.  This is just one of the fun projects you can do to turn old biker gear into new, useful items.

Don't just throw away items when they get a little worn out.  With some creativity and a little work, you can turn them into useful items or repair them.
