Riding a Cruiser Motorcycle

Of the many different types of motorcycles out there, the cruiser is one of the most popular because it is designed for riding for long periods of time and for travelling long distances.  It's also something of a favorite among those who like the old style motorcycle designs because it's based on the American bikes made between the 1930s and 1960s.  Most of today's cruisers are based on Harley-Davidson motorcycles from that time, and while Harley still makes some of the most popular cruisers, other brands like BMW, Honda, Suzuki, Victory, and Yamaha have produced cruiser motorcycles.

When riding a cruiser, the biker sets with their feet forward and their hands up at about chest-height.  The seat is designed so that you sit up straight or lean back just slightly, almost exactly like you might sit when driving a car.  Because of this, it's easy to steer the bike, but you're not going to get a great amount of speed.  Cruisers also often have limited turning abilities, too, especially those that are designed to carry a good amount of luggage on the back.

Many times, bikers will have their cruisers customized to fit their style and needs.  For example, some will purchase a trailer to pull behind their cruiser and will have both painted to match.  They might also do some custom upholstery on the seats, add extra mirrors that have been etched, and do much more.  They make these bikes true extensions of themselves and their personalities.  When you've got a bike and trailer that coordinate with the patches on your riding jacket and the rest of your gear, it's a truly impressive sight.

If you're going to be riding long distances or if you plan on riding your bike as your main form of transportation, a cruiser motorcycle is probably the right choice for you.
