Riding for Charity

Many biker clubs and individual bikers ride just for pleasure.  They enjoy getting together and hitting the open road.  But some groups also like to give back to their favorite charities and to help their community.  These bikers will often participate in different charity events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure or donate to various groups like Feed The Children.  However, some biker groups like to go a step further and hold their own charity events.  While these events can be a lot of work to host, they are also very rewarding.

Local clubs support their community and various charities in several ways.  Sometimes, they get out and volunteer for another group, such as collecting donations for the Salvation Army around the holidays.  The club as a whole often makes a monetary donation in addition to the entire club donating its time and energy.

When a biker group holds its own event, everything is dependent on the club.  They have to secure the location, publicize the event, and handle collecting all of the donations.  The club officers also need to be aware of all the rules regarding collecting money for charity and be sure to give receipts so that those who donate can claim a tax deduction.  Some events clubs have held for charity include auctions, races, and bike shows.

In addition to local clubs working for charities, there are also some national and even international biker charities.  The Motorcycle Charity Associates, for example, holds various events to raise money for veterans.  The Children of Fallen Riders organization helps families who have lost a parent and are in danger of being homeless or are unable to afford basic needs.  These groups and many others combine their love of riding with their love of community to create something truly special.
