Temperatures are starting to cool off in many areas, and even though autumn is just starting, it'll be winter before you know it. So does this mean your time of motorcycle riding is over? It doesn't have to be, although a lot of people do put their bikes in storage during the winter. Most of these people are causal riders who take their motorcycles out on the weekends for fun but use other vehicles for all their other transportation needs.
Some people do ride their motorcycles all year round. Usually, they live in warmer climates where it doesn't get too cold and there aren't a lot of bad winter storms. Bikes generally don't do very well on icy roads, so if you live in an area that gets a lot of ice during the winter months, you might seriously consider alternative transportation simply for your safety. However, if it doesn't ice or get extremely cold in your part of the world, you can continue to ride during the winter.
You will, of course, want to invest in some heavy riding gear. You will need a heavy jacket that keeps your body heat in and protects you from the biting wind. You'll also want thick pants, a good pair of winter boots, and a warm hat. You might also want to replace your standard riding gloves with a part that is lined to help keep your hands warm.
Your main concern with winter riding will be the road conditions. Snow is similar to riding on wet pavement, and while starting and stopping are a little different, you will be able to adjust pretty quickly. Again, your biggest worry is going to be ice. Other than that, if you stay warm and remember to exercise a little extra caution on snowy roads, you should be just fine.
