Selling Your Bike

Most motorcycle riders are on the lookout for new bikes to buy, but sometimes, especially if you have a number of different motorcycles, you come to the conclusion that you've got to sell one or two of them.  Letting go of one of your bikes can be a little difficult at times, but if you're going to sell one, you need to make sure you go about it the right way.

You've got two different options, much like you do with selling any type of automobile.  You can sell it to a dealership or you can sell it yourself to another biker.  Selling it to a dealer can be the easier option, of course, but you might not get as much for your bike as you'd like.  You may also have to make repairs or other changes to the bike before the dealer will accept it.  On the other hand, you can often get credit towards buying your next motorcycle from the dealership.

If you want to sell your bike yourself, you have more control over who purchases it and what conditions its sold under.  You may not have to make as many repairs or changes, but finding someone who will pay what you're asking may be difficult.  You may have to pay for advertising in your local paper or hunt down places to advertise online.  Selling your bike yourself involves a lot more work than taking it to a dealer, but it can be more rewarding.  You know that your old motorcycle is going to a good home.

No matter which option you pick, selling a bike can be like saying goodbye to a good friend.  Make sure you go with the option that feels right to you.
