Spending Your Vacation on Your Bike

Many people take a week or even two weeks? vacation every year.  Some people take their entire family with them on vacation, but bikers sometimes talk their spouses into letting them spend a week on the road with their biker buddies.  Of course, if you and your spouse both ride and don't have children, you can take a biker vacation whenever you want!  Either way, if you're thinking about spending your vacation on your bike traveling, there are some things you need to plan out.

The first think is your schedule.  While you need to do this with any trip, it's especially important to do so on a bike.  It's also especially important to make sure your schedule is flexible.  With a car, for example, it's possible to continue traveling in the rain, although you will want to drive more slowly.  On a bike, though, it can be impossible to keep going in a heavy downpour.

You also need to take into account how much luggage you'll be taking with you and how many things you'll want to buy along the way.  This is especially important if you have fairly small saddlebags.  If you pull a trailer behind your bike, it's not quite as important to pack lightly.  When making purchases on the road, remember that you don't have a trunk or backseat like you would in a car.  You can always purchase items and mail them back, but the postage can quickly add up.  That's an extra expense that you might not be able to fit into your budget.

Naturally, before you leave, you'll want to get your bike checked out.  Get the tired checked and maybe even change the oil before you head out just to make certain you don't break down on your trip.
