Taking Your Family to a Biker Rally

Going to a biker rally can be a lot of fun.  If you've been going to rallies for years, though, you've probably noticed how they've changed.  Rallies used to be only for those serious bikers who loved riding across the country to meet up with others who loved bikes.  Today, though, some motorcycle rallies invite everyone, and you'll meet people who ride only as a hobby in addition to those who are serious bikers.  You'll also see entire families at these rallies, including children.

Some hardcore motorcycle enthusiasts aren't exactly fond of this change.  They don't believe children have a place at motorcycle rallies, even children who have jackets covered in biker patches and know the difference between a Honda and a Harley.  Having kids at a rally does change the nature of the event.  Activities have to be family-friendly, which means performers have to refrain from using harsh language, and there can be no nudity.  There also have to be more restrictions on drinking so that no underage people are served.  To some, these things are a key part of a biker rally, it's a gathering of tough men and women, not families.

To others, though, the chance to share their passion with their families makes for a great trip.  No, they probably can't ride their motorcycle the entire way, and some might not ride their bike at all, but there's more to a rally than that.  They want to chat with fellow enthusiasts, shop for some new iron on patches and gear, and enjoy some of the activities associated with a rally.

For those who miss the old style biker rallies, there are still plenty of those around.  Just look for the ones that require participants to be 21 or over to enter.
