Thanksgiving: Reflecting On Family, Faith and Friends

When thinking about Thanksgiving the first thing that comes to mind is turkey when actually it is the one time set aside for us to think about how fortunate we truly are. If you live in America there is always somewhere that you can get a hot meal. There are also programs that offer vouchers for food and churches who give food to low income or no income families.

As you look around the table there you will see people that you look forward to seeing all year and there are also a few that you may not be so excited about. The point is that you're together. You were healthy enough to make it to Thanksgiving lunch or dinner. Never underestimate how happy that you have made some by simply showing up with a smile, it could mean the world to them.

So, perhaps as you pass the mashed potatoes take time to genuinely smile at your loved ones and let them know how happy you are that they are there. Maybe as a family this year you can all decide on a way to share your good fortune with those that are struggling. Start a new thanksgiving tradition as a family and feed someone for Christmas. I promise you the turkey will taste better and you will have a happy heart to go along with your happy tummy!

For ideas on giving, check with your local church and shelters to find out what the needs are. You can also check with the BBB to be sure they are legit. If you want to be more personal perhaps invite someone to join you and your family for Thanksgiving. So many older people are widowed or just alone, you will be happy that you added to the true joy of the holiday.
