The Increase in Women Riders is Influencing Motorcycle Manufacturing

In recent years there have been a number of women who have become interested in riding motorcycles.  News reports have said that approximately ten percent of all motorcycle riders (or one in ten) is now a woman, and this has caused motorcycle manufacturers to stand up and take notice.  After all, the basic size dimensions for your average female rider are going to be different than those for your average male rider.   So, when motorcycles are manufactured, they are now taking this into consideration on certain bikes.

The leaders at Harley Davidson have definitely taken notice and have become the world's market leader in sales to women riders.   Not only this, but they also work to provide women with a number of safety courses, options, and other information.  This is because studies show that women are far more safety conscious than their male counterparts, and Harley Davidson thought that the best way to encourage more and more women riders was not only to manufacture motorcycles and riding gear designed for their smaller frames, but also to offer them the safety and instructional information that they wanted to make sure that they felt comfortable riding on a bike.

Many people think that the number of women riders is primarily on the rise for street cruisers, but the fact is that they have taken to motorcycle riding across the spectrum, including racing, motocross, and off-road motorcycling.  To help support these women, a number of riding groups have popped up as well, and they can often be identified by the type of motorcycle patches that they wear on their clothing and gear.  As more and more women enter the motorcycle world, you can be certain manufacturers are going to begin building more bikes specifically designed for their smaller frames.
