Motorcycles have a with to turn the gas off and on. When positions in the off position it may run a minute or so (or they did in the 70's), but it is going to cut off quicker than you can shift gears. I have a funny story about that. Coming from a small town in North Carolina, there was one main road, no theatre or mall. We hung out in the A& P parking lot next to the Golden Arches. One night a friend of mine took a bet that he would ride out of the parking lot first cop that he saw and outrun them. Filled with excitement we waited and viola here comes the police cruiser and out he flew like a rocket goes the bike flying down Randolph Street with my buddy grinning largely. All the while we could still see him from the parking lot then the unthinkable we heard the engine die and watched him get hauled off by the police. Dummy forgot to turn on the gas switch!
