For a lot of motorcycle riders, using a windshield is not cool. It's another thing that's putting a barrier between you and nature, not to mention that it just makes the bike look like some old geezer is driving it. However, this simple addition can make a big difference in the quality of your ride. If the most that you ever do on your motorcycle is cruise around town or make quick trips out to the corner store, then a windshield on your motorcycle is not something that is ever going to make a big impact.
However, if you like to take your bike out on long rides on the weekends, or if you ride your bike to work every day, then a windshield is something that could definitely make the quality of your ride a little better. The reason for this is that you won't always have perfect riding weather. There are very few days during the year when there's not going to be some type of precipitation or wind related problem. During these days, it's often nice to have something protecting you from the weather.
Also, even on days when the weather is top notch, you still have to worry about bugs. Everything from flies and wasps to grasshoppers and crickets can end up getting in your face if you're not careful. A windshield would also help to protect you from this. Plus, windshields don't necessarily have to be permanent installations. You can remove them at times if you like. This way, you could have the comfort and protection of a windshield when you need it and the cool image of a bike without one when you don't.
