Why Add Patches to Your Jacket?

After all the talk about finding rare patches, trading patches, and decorating with patches, there's still one basic question some people have: why would you want to cover your jacket in patches in the first place?  There are many different reasons why bikers love their patches.

Some want to add some personalization to their riding gear.  Everyone's riding gear tends to look fairly similar, so adding patches is one way to stand out.  Bikers can create a Native American theme, cover their jacket is patches featuring funny sayings, or put patches related to their favorite bike brand all over their gear.  The possibilities are endless, and you're sure to be able to find a few patches that match your interests and likes.

Another reason to add patches to your gear is to raise awareness of certain events or diseases.  For example, there are pink ribbon patches for breast cancer awareness.  There are also patches supporting the right to own guns or that speak out against illegal immigration.  If you can't find a patch that supports the cause you love, you can purchase a blank patch and embroider one yourself.

Some biker clubs also give out patches to their members.  These patches help identify which club a rider belongs to.  That's especially important at biker rallies or at events where numerous clubs come together.  These patches can also identify club officers or those in charge, which can be helpful at large events.

Any of these are great reasons to add patches to your jacket and other items.  Some bikers just really like patches and how they look.  There's nothing wrong with wearing patches just for decoration.
